Night landing at Silchar Airport still pending with IAF
Despite growing demand from fliers of Barak Valley and the neighbouring areas for night landing of aircrafts at Silchar airport in view of the increasing volume of passengers and also for provision of more cost effective flights, the decision in this regard has been left at the discretion of Indian Air Force. This has been conveyed to Kabindra Purkayastha, MP, by Ajit Singh, Minister of Civil Aviation, in reply to his letter recently on night landing permission to passenger flights at the airport. The Minister pointed out that the airport belongs to Ministry of Defence and all air traffic facilities including night landing are under their control.
