Will the new year herald hope for the border people?
SILCHAR, Dec 30: There is a cry from the people of 56 villages, poor and economically weak, living in the greater Cheragi areas under Ratabari police station in the extreme south end of Karimganj district, bordering Mizoram, to get merged with the neighbouring State. Their ire and anger as articulated before the media persons by the President, Abhimanyu Singh, and secretary, Sarful Ali, of their joint platform “Cheragi-Jamuyang Sadak Unnayan Samiti” can well be understood from the fact even after 67 years of Independence, they are yet to see the basic facilities of connectivity, safe drinking water, electricity, health structure and education infrastructure.
