Barak Valley witnesses season of weathercock politicians
SILCHAR, Jan 16: Political switchovers of the disappointed party members has created a hue and cry situation among the leaders of every political parties in Cachar district on the eve of panchayat polls. Most of those who were denied ticket by their respective parties to contest the ensuing panchayat elections, scheduled to be held in the district on February 12, have switched their political loyalties.
The deprived candidates have alleged that the party leaders are indulged in “malpractices” and have awarded tickets to “unfit” candidates in return of huge amount of kickbacks. On the other hand, the leaders have refuted the allegations, saying that it is an exercise carrying out by the members who were denied tickets just to malign them. It is all over a tensed situation, which has been prevailing in the party offices of Congress, BJP and AIUDF respectively in the district.
