Reservation of seats for panchayat president, vice president

SILCHAR, Dec 13: In consistent with the Constitutional provisions and democratic tradition and the growing clamour for reservation and empowerment of women, in particular, the Deputy Commissioner of Cachar has notified reservation of 16 of the 27 seats of Cachar Zila Parishad. Of the 16 seats, 14 have been reserved for women. 7 Dholai south and the 25 Silchar west seats have been reserved for SC women. 9 Udharband south and 24 Katigorah east seats are kept apart for SC. Remaining 11 seats are for general classes of people.
