599 Trade union activists court arrest at Silchar
SILCHAR, Dec 18: In support of their thirteen point charter of demands, Cachar district units of different trade unions- INTUC, BMS, CITU, AITUC, AICCTU, AIUTUC and TUCC today organized “jail bharo” movement along with other parts of the country. Raising slogans against the Center for its “misgovernance” and “misrule”, hundreds of workers and supporters with placards and banners brought out a rally from Narsingtola ground that moved through the main thoroughfares of the town and assembled before the office of the Deputy Commissioner.
Addressing the assembly, Sushil Chowdhury, president, CITU, Cachar-Hailakandi district committee, described today’s event as “historical” as he said that it was for the first time all the trade unions irrespective of their ideologies came on a same platform to raise their voice against the “injustice” being done by the Centre to the workers. He lashed out at the UPA-led government at the Centre for its “wrong policies” and “mis-governance”.
