Sylhet Utsav 2013 to begin on January 12

SILCHAR, Jan 8: A two-day-long ‘Sylhet Utsav-2013’ will begin on January 12 in the premises of Jodhpur Perk Boys’ School, South Kolkata. It will also be the occasion of 8th annual conference of All India Federation of Sreehatta Sammilanis, an organization of the people of Sylhet origin and organizer of the festival.

Addressing a press meet held here today, Bithika Dev, president of the Sammilanis and former MLA, briefed the schedule of the different events that will be held at the festival. Abul Mal Abdul Mohit, Finance Minister, Government of Bangladesh, will grace the occasion as the chief guest while Badruddin Kamran, Mayor, Sylhet Municipal Corporation, Sekhar Dutta, Governor, Chhattisgarh, Gautam Roy, Minister of PHE, and Santosh Mohan Dev, former Union Minister and Chief Advisor of the Sammilanis will grace the occasion as the guests of honour.

In addition to cultural shows, a health related programme on child marriage will be held on January 13. The Mumbai Sreehatta Sammilani, Daklshin Sreehatta Sammilani, Folk band- Surma Dohar, Delhi Sreehatta Sammilani and Dakshin Kolkata Sylhet Association, local host, will hold cultural programmes. Among others present at the press meet included Haran Dey, media adviser, Sadhan Purkaystha, co-ordinator.
