SILCHAR, Jan 12: Will BJP regain lost ground in Karimganj district, once considered its bastion, in the panchayat elections? The saffron surge of 90’s when it virtually swept the border district by wresting all the 5 Assembly seats in 1996 only to be wiped away in 2011 might not be a repeat. But, the ever swelling number of ticket seekers for gaon panchayat, anchalik panchayat and zilla parishad seats has given new hope and expectation among the party leaders and workers about its revival of their foothold and sway. From all indications, Congress and AIUDF will be the major challenge before it.
