Unprecedented traffic congestion

The Bailey Bridge of woes on NH 44

SILCHAR, Jan 10: The Bailey bridge built by the British during World War II at Malidahar on National Highway 44, now NH 6, located on Assam-Meghalaya border, has become a bridge of woes for the hundreds of passengers and drivers of the vehicles who have to take to this vital connectivity for their movement as it links Barak Valley, Mizoram, Manipur and Tripura. For the last one week, there has been unprecedented traffic jam due to the ever worsening condition of the bridge. On both sides, large queues of vehicles, passengers and goods, have been stranded as only one vehicle is allowed to pass through it.
