 Dubakhata Lower Primary School Headmaster arrested and sent to jail



Samsul Haque Mazumder (55), headmaster of 948 Dubakhata Lower Primary School in the Lakhipur sub-division of Cachar, was arrested by police last night from his Hatihar residence on the alleged ground of misappropriation of fund.
According to information received from the sub-divisional headquarters of Lakhipur, Samsul Haque was entrusted with the responsibility of construction of the school building of Singerband Harijanpara Lower Primary School. A fund of  Rs 2.75 lakh was allocated for the building under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan.
It was brought to the notice of the block elementary education officer of the area, Gopinath Sinha, that the building in question was not constructed and that the entire fund was shown as utilized. On the basis of a public complaint, the BEEO made an on the spot visit and after proper inquiry, he found no existence of any new building attached to Singerband Harijanpara Lower Primary School. It was also discovered by him on investigation that the fund of Rs 2.75 lakh earmarked for the building was withdrawn and was lying with the Pailapool branch of the Assam Gramin Vikash Bank.
The investigation by BEEO found prima facie evidence of misappropriation of development fund of a school. A FIR was lodged against the headmaster, Samsul Haque, at Lakhipur police station on Sunday vide case no 288/12. Second police officer, Islam Uddin, arrested the headmaster from his residence. Today, he was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate here. He was sent to jail.
